Best of East Coast - Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Sri Lanka

Your journey begins in Negombo, a charming coastal town just a short drive from the international airport. Upon arrival, you will be met by our representative at the Bandaranayake International Airport and transferred to your hotel. Negombo is famous for its wide sandy beaches and its vibrant fishing industry. Depending on your arrival time, you can spend the evening strolling along the beach or visiting the bustling local fish market to see the traditional "oruwa" sailing boats. You’ll spend the night at Jetwing J (or similar) on a Bed & Breakfast basis.

Day 2–3: The Spiritual Heart of Kandy

Leaving the coast behind, you head into Kandy, the island's cultural capital. "En route, you will stop at a Spice Garden in Mavanalla to learn about the plants that flavoured the ancient spice trade. Explore the shimmering treasures of a Gem Museum in Kandy while exploring the vibrant streets of the city at your own pace. The highlight is a visit to the Temple of the Tooth Relic, Sri Lanka's most sacred site, followed by an evening of rhythmic energy at a live Kandyan Cultural Dance performance. You will stay overnight at Oak Ray City Hotel (or similar) on a Bed & Breakfast basis.

Day 4: Into the Clouds at Nuwara Eliya

Wind through emerald valleys on a scenic drive to Nuwara Eliya, known as "Little England." Walk through rolling tea plantations, witness the art of tea-making at a local factory, and enjoy a fresh tasting session. Spend a peaceful evening at leisure, enjoying the cool mountain air and colonial charm of this highland retreat. Your stay for the night is at Oak Ray Summer Hill Breeze (or similar) on a Bed & Breakfast basis.

Day 5–6: Highland Magic in Ella

Board the iconic scenic train for a journey often called the most beautiful in the world. In Ella, the adventure continues with a hike up Ella Rock for breathtaking vistas and a walk across the architectural marvel of the Nine Arch Bridge. Spend your evenings exploring the vibrant cafes of Ella town. You will stay overnight at La Ella Breeze (or similar) on a Bed & Breakfast basis.

Day 7–9: The Turquoise Bay of Pasikuda

Trade the mountains for the sea as you head to the pristine East Coast. Pasikuda is home to one of the world's longest stretches of shallow coastline, making it a paradise for swimming and relaxation. For three blissful days, soak up the sun at your beach resort or dive into optional water sports in the crystal-clear bay. You will stay overnight at the Pasikuda Beach Resort (or similar) on a Bed & Breakfast basis.

Day 10–11: Trincomalee’s Untamed Beauty

Head north to the historic port city of Trincomalee. Explore the world’s largest natural harbour and visit ancient cliffside temples with stunning ocean views. Relax on sun-kissed sands of Nilaveli Beach, or take an optional boat excursion for a magical whale watching experience in the deep blue. You will stay overnight at the Nilaveli Beach Resort (or similar) on a Bed & Breakfast basis.

Day 12-13: The Ascent of the Lion Rock and safari

Leaving the coast behind, you head into the heart of Sri Lanka’s "Cultural Triangle. En route, you may visit the Polonnaruwa ancient city, a UNESCO World Heritage site, as an optional activity. Your one of the primary stops is Sigiriya Lion Rock, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The ancient Sigiriya rock fortress rises 200 meters above the jungle and features the famous "Mirror Wall," colourful frescoes, and the massive stone lion paws at the entrance to the summit. You have the flexibility to choose between a traditional Habarana Village Tour to experience rural life or a soothing Ayurvedic Massage to unwind after your climb. Go on a safari to witness large groups of wild Asian elephants at Minneriya National Park. Your stay for the nights is at Fresco Water Villa (or similar) on a Bed & Breakfast basis.

Day 14: Departure from Sigiriya/Dambulla

On your final day, you will be transferred from your hotel to the Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo for your departure. While no accommodation is provided for this night, a full breakfast is included to start your travel day. You’ll head home with memories of ancient ruins, misty mountains, and the warm hospitality of Sri Lanka.
